Statement on Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa’s meeting with the Boere-Afrikaner Volksraad, Union Buildings
Pretoria - Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa, supported by Minister of Justice Michael Masutha, today Thursday 28 August 2014 hosted a meeting with representatives of the Boer-Afrikaner Volksraad at the Union Buildings, Pretoria.
The meeting provided an opportunity for the Boere-Afrikaner Volksraad to brief Deputy President Ramaphosa and his delegation about their concerns for self-determination.
In this regard, Deputy President Ramaphosa said such engagements were important for promoting dialogue and understanding among South Africans.
“Government needs to be available to discuss any matters of concern to citizens,” said Deputy President Ramaphosa.
The Deputy President reaffirmed the centrality of the Bill of Rights in the constitution and in particular, the rights of all citizens to practice their culture, religion and use of their language in a united democratic state of South Africa.
The Government will continue to engage with the Boere-Afrikaner Volksraad and any other formations to discuss issues of interest and concern.
