The Presidency’s response to the DA allegations regarding the Presidential Protection Services of Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa

Pretoria - The office of Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa has noted allegations levelled by Kate Lorimer, DA Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature regarding the reported conduct of the security detail of the Deputy President allegedly committed on 5 September 2014 in Midrand, Gauteng.

In this regard, the office of the Deputy President Ramaphosa wishes to put it on record that matters relating to the security of the Deputy President are the responsibility of the police, and they would be best positioned to answer any questions regarding the alleged conduct of the VIP Protection Unit.

Nonetheless, the office of the Deputy President wishes to reiterate its long held view that in providing the necessary security support to political principals, the Presidential Protection Services should undertake such responsibilities within the ambit of the law and with due respect to rights of members of the public.
