Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa visits EPWP Projects in Northern Cape

Kuruman - Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa and Chair of the Public Employment Programme Inter-Ministerial Committee (PEP-IMC) will on Friday, 22 April 2016, conduct site visits to Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) projects in the Northern Cape.

The visit will focus on public employment projects based in Kuruman, Mothibistad.

The visit is aimed at evaluating progress achieved in the implementation of Public Employment Programmes (PEP) led by the Department of Public Works.  

Government has established public employment as a vehicle to provide training and short- to medium-term work opportunities for unskilled, poor and unemployed South Africans.

The PEP-IMC, chaired by Deputy President Ramaphosa, includes Ministers who are responsible for securing greater synergy among public employment programmes and ensuring that government achieves its target of creating 6 million work opportunities by 2019.

Deputy President Ramaphosa will be supported by Ministers and the Premier of the Northern Cape, Ms Sylvia Lucas.
