Deputy President Ramaphosa to deliver a Memorial Lecture on the life and times of Elijah Barayi
Cape Town - Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa will tomorrow, Tuesday, 14th June 2016, deliver a Memorial Lecture on the life and times of Elijah Barayi at the Salt River, community hall at 18h30.
The lecture will afford Deputy President Ramaphosa an opportunity to pay special tribute to Elijah Barayi who sacrificed his life in the struggle for the dawn of peace, freedom and the building of a non-racial, non-sexist, democratic society.
Elijah Barayi was one of the founding leaders of the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) and rose to become Congress of South African Trade Union (Cosatu) President at its launch in 1985. He had been an activist of the Mass Democratic Movement since the 1950s.
