President Ramaphosa to attend the Mercedes-Benz investment announcement event
President Cyril Ramaphosa will tomorrow, 26 June 2018, attend an investment announcement event at the Mercedes-Benz Cars plant in East London.
The event will mark Mercedes-Benz Cars’ additional investment into South Africa’s vehicle manufacturing industry.
During the State of the Nation Address in February this year, President Ramaphosa announced that a central priority for government this year is to encourage significant new investment in our economy. This is a necessary condition for the growth of the economy and the creation of jobs on a scale that will significantly reduce current levels of unemployment. New investment in productive sectors of the economy is therefore vital to our efforts to reduce poverty and inequality.
The investment by the German manufacturer, Mercedes-Benz Cars is a demonstration of the continued confidence that global automotive producers have in South Africa as an investment destination and the supportive policy environment that the country offers.
The visit to the Mercedes-Benz manufacturing plant is in line with the country’s drive to raise $100bn in new investment over the next five years to create jobs and for development as announced by the President in April this year. A key milestone in this drive will be the Investment Conference to be held in October 2018 in Gauteng.
Members of the media are invited to the announcement as follows:
Date: Tuesday, 26 June 2018

Venue: Mercedes-Benz plant in East London, 7 Settlers Way, Gately, East London, 5201
