Deputy President Mabuza to hand over settled land to the Ubizo community in Empangeni, KwaZulu-Natal
Deputy President David Mabuza, the Chairperson of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Land Reform, accompanied by the Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform, Ms Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, will on Saturday, 16 March 2019, officiate at the Presidential Handover Ceremony for settled and finalised land claims in Empangeni, KwaZulu-Natal.
Through the Commission on the Restitution of Land Rights, the Deputy President program will hand over the finalised and settled land claim to the Ubizo Communal Property Association at the Bhekikusasa High School Sports Ground near Inkosi Cebekhulu Residence near Empangeni in KwaZulu-Natal Province.
The Ubizo Community Land Claim consists of 2547.2860 Hectares of land and is made up of 149 households who were dispossessed. There are 894 land restitution beneficiaries (30% of which are women), who are direct descendants of this community that will benefit from this handover. The total value of assets is R136 million.
