Deputy President Mabuza to undertake an oversight visit to Emfuleni Local Municipality
Deputy President David Mabuza will today, 23 March 2021 conduct an oversight visit to Sebokeng, in the Emfuleni Local Municipality. The visit is part of the work of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Service Delivery and the commitment made by the Deputy President in the National Council of Provinces and National Assembly to ensure that service delivery challenges of the community are addressed.
The Deputy President will be accompanied by the Premier of Gauteng, Mr David Makhura, the Minister of Human Settlements, Water and Sanitation, Ms Lindiwe Sisulu, the Deputy Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Mr Obed Bapela, Deputy Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition, Mr Fikile Majola, Gauteng MEC Human Settlements, Urban Planning and CoGTA, Mr Lebogang Maile.
During the visit, Deputy President Mabuza will receive a briefing on the intended Section 63 (as per Water Services Act; Act 108 of 1997) intervention at the Water Services Authority to rehabilitate Vaal River System in terms of water and to capacitate the municipality to sustainably manage water services operation as well progress made under Section 139 (b) of the Constitution.
The visit also falls within the context of the the District Development Model for accelerated and aligned integrated service delivery, that speaks to the urgency required to turnaround municipalities experiencing challenges.
