Deputy President Mabuza to deliver the Eulogy at the Special Official Funeral of Mama Veronica Sobukwe
Deputy President David Mabuza will tomorrow, 25 August 2018, deliver the Eulogy at the Special Provincial Official Funeral of the late Mama Veronica Sobukwe who sadly passed away on 15 August 2018.
She was a 2018 recipient of the National Order of Luthuli in Silver for her tenacious fight for freedom and her steadfast support of incarcerated freedom fighters. She challenged the injustices meted out against the majority of South Africans, including her late husband, Pan Africanist Congress (PAC) founder Dr Robert Sobukwe.
President Cyril Ramaphosa declared a Special Official Funeral Category 2 for Mma Sobukwe, which is accorded to distinguished persons specifically designated by the President on request by the Premier of a province.
The period of mourning, as declared by the President, will end on Saturday evening when the struggle icon has been laid to rest.
Deputy President Mabuza has conveyed his sincerest condolences to the Sobukwe family and all those who have been touched by the works of Mma Veronica Sobukwe in her indelible contribution to the struggles of emancipation for people of South Africa.
