Deputy President Mabuza to chair the hybrid South African National Aids Council extended plenary
Deputy President David Mabuza, in his capacity as the Chairperson of the South African National AIDS Council (SANAC), will chair the SANAC extended plenary on Saturday, 27 November 2021. The Plenary will be preceded by an outreach programme where the Deputy President will engage with traditional leaders and interfaith leaders on their active participation in the response to HIV, TB, STI’s and the COVID-19 vaccination programme.
The extended SANAC Plenary is the highest decision-making body of the AIDS Council and comprises of the Civil Society Forum, Private Sector Forum as well as Premiers of all the provinces. It is expected that the plenary will receive progress on the National Strategic Plan catch-up plans in response to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, discuss the Learner Pregnancy Management and Prevention Policy as well as the donor funding for SANAC programmes, among others.
The plenary takes place on the eve of the commemoration of World AIDS Day, which will be observed under the theme “Working Together to End inequalities, AIDS, TB and COVID-19 on 1 December 2021.
Deputy President Mabuza will be accompanied by the Premier of the KwaZulu-Natal Province, Mr Sihle Zikalala, the Minister of Health Dr Joe Phaahla, Members of the SANAC Inter-Ministerial Committee, Deputy Chairperson of SANAC, Ms Steve Letsike and senior government officials.
