Deputy President Mabuza to chair the Extended SANAC Plenary Session in Limpopo

Deputy President David Mabuza will on Friday, 29 June 2018, chair the Extended Plenary Session of the South African National AIDS Council (SANAC) at the Ranch Resort in Polokwane, Limpopo Province.

Deputy President Mabuza is the Chairperson the South African National AIDS Council, a voluntary association of institutions established by government to build consensus across civil society and all other stakeholders to drive an enhanced country response to HIV, TB and STIs.

In this regard, the Deputy President will chair the forthcoming Extended Plenary which will, amongst others, receive an update on the implementation of the National Strategic Plan 2017-2022, regarding the Social and structural drivers of HIV, TB and STIs.

In addition, the Extended Plenary Session will also receive a progress report from the Provincial Councils on AIDS.

Currently, each of the country's nine provinces has its own provincial council on AIDS (PCA), chaired by the Premiers.

During the Extended Plenary Session, the meeting will consider an update and agree on a common message by South Africa to the 22nd International AIDS Conference scheduled for the 23 - 27 July 2018 in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

The biennial conference is organised by the International AIDS Society which includes researchers from various disciplines, medical professionals, public health as well as community practitioners and policy planners.
