Deputy President David Mabuza to lead the vaccination social mobilisation campaign in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape
Deputy President David Mabuza will on Friday, 12 November 2021 lead the “Return to Play: It is in Your Hands” vaccination social mobilisation campaign. The campaign by the Department of Sport Arts and Culture is aimed at getting more people vaccinated so that the concerts, festivals and sporting events can open up and welcome audiences and spectators.
Since the roll-out of the campaign, we have witnessed the partial relaxation of restrictions, where 2000 vaccinated spectators were allowed to attend the South Africa/ Ethiopia World Cup qualifier at the FNB stadium in October, for the first time since the announcement of the COVID-19 lockdown last year.
The Eastern Cape leg of the campaign will also be coupled with the second round of the Vooma Vaccination Weekend scheduled for 12-14 November after the enthusiastic uptake of vaccines during the launch of the Vooma Vaccination Campaign last month.
The Province of the Eastern Cape has produced many legends in the arts, literature, music, drama, sport and struggle for freedom and democracy. Deputy President Mabuza is then expected to invoke the same spirit to mobilise more people in the Eastern Cape to vaccinate.
The Deputy President will be accompanied by the Minister of Sport Arts and Culture, Mr Nathi Mthethwa and the Premier of the Eastern Cape Mr Oscar Mabuyane.
The campaign kicked-off in Gauteng at the FNB Stadium on 8 September 2021, and has since been launched in four provinces and has succeeded in getting influencers vaccinated.
